Ajax announce arrival of talented No 6: loan with option to buy | Goal.com
Ajax and Udinese have reached an agreement over the loan of Abdoulaye Camara, the Amsterdam club said in a press release. The 17-year-old French midfielder will join on loan for one season, with an option to buy also agreed.
Ajax say Camara's move is still subject to a number of formalities.
If the move goes through, the defensive midfielder will join Jong Ajax's squad.
French media had earlier reported that Ajax will initially sign Camara on loan, with an almost mandatory purchase option of €15 million agreed.
Should certain conditions be met, the purchase option will be activated automatically. If the option is exercised, Camara would be under contract until mid-2031.
Camara does not yet have much experience at the highest level. He made his Serie A debut in May when he came on in the closing stages against Cremonese (0-1). That remains his only official first-team appearance so far. He did, however, train with the senior side during the season and was regularly on the bench.
He also played plenty of minutes for Udinese's Primavera side, where he wore the captain's armband. Ajax are now offering him the chance to take the next step in his development. With the agreement between the clubs in place and a medical planned, only the final formalities now appear to stand in the way of the transfer.
