Denmark is reserving its place at the European Championships this summer after finishing unbeaten in the qualifiers and will have ambitions to perform well at the tournament. The Danes will be represented by a very experienced team in the tournament this summer and they will have the difficult task of approaching the level of the Danish team that won the European Championship in 1992.
Can this Danish team reproduce the team's performance with players then like Peter Schmeichel, Brian Laudrup, Henrik Larsen and be one of the big surprises of Euro 2020? Check out our preview of Denmark at the 2020 European Championships and what we can expect from the "Danish Dynamite".
Denmark European Championships - History and successes
Denmark will take part in the European finals for the ninth time in its history. The nation's best performance was the European crown won in 1992 at the championship in Sweden. At the time, Denmark, which initially failed to qualify just to be re-admitted ten days before the start of the competition, were outsiders in tournaments but had a very strong team. The "red dynamite" opposed the odds to write one of the great stories in European football. Otherwise, the Danish team missed the last edition of the finals in 2016 in France, and 4 years before that was eliminated in the group stage. They have also one semifinal in France in 1984.
The Road to Euro 2020
The "Danish Dynamite" finished the Euro qualifiers undefeated, making them one of five undefeated teams heading to the championship this summer. Unlike the other four countries - Ukraine, Spain, Italy, and Belgium - they were not the winner in their group. Denmark failed in the battle for the first place with Switzerland. Most importantly, it won a direct quota for the European finals. It could have been different if the defender of the Republic of Ireland Matt Doherty had not scored five minutes before the end to bring a point against the Danes in the final round of matches. Georgia and Gibraltar were the other teams in Denmark's qualifying group, but the Red Dynamite had no problems against them.

Denmark squad for the European Football Championship 2020
Denmark has a lot of class in every position of the field. Red Dynamite has a great goalkeeper like Kasper Schmeichel, who is the team's second captain. The most experienced defender is captain Simon Kjaer, and also Andreas Christensen, Yannick Westergaard, and Nicolai Boilesen are very good players. The midfield of the team is very strong, and it impresses Thomas Delaney, Daniel Wass, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, Lasse Schoene, and of course Christian Eriksen. Barcelona striker Martin Braithwaite will be the main figure of the team in the offensive plan, but the team also includes Joseph Poulsen, Kasper Dolberg, and Andreas Olsen.

The Big Star: Christian Eriksen
Christian Eriksen is the big star of this Danish team and he brings an abundance of wisdom. He is perhaps their most important player from a creative point of view, but unlike previous appearances in the tournament, the Inter playmaker will not carry Denmark on his back. It still feels like yesterday, when the Middelfart-born national was the youngest player at the 2010 World Cup, and since then Eriksen has progressed, scoring 36 goals in 103 appearances for the national team. There is no doubt that all eyes will be on him when Hulmand's team goes on the field this summer. If anyone can inspire Denmark, it is obviously Michael Laudrup's successor.
Expectations for Denmark at Euro 2020
Specialists see Red Dynamite as the second favorite after Belgium in Group B that should continue in the next phase of the tournament. We have a little different view and we see the teams of Denmark, Finland, and Russia have the same chances to pass the group stage. Given the class of players of the "red dynamite", maybe they will reach the direct eliminations, but that will not be an easy game. Our expectations for Denmark are to play in the 1/8-finals of Euro 2020, but we don't see the potential to be among the top eight in the tournament or to do something more.
Odds for Denmark
As we already mentioned group B is a balanced group. This is our personal view, but maybe the bookmakers are thinking the same way. They are giving 2nd highest probability to win the group and go through the 1/8 finals. Denmark is also out of the top 5 favorites for winning the European title in 2020. Here are the current odds for the "Red Dynamite":

| To win Group B | 3.75 | ![]() |
