Benfica have pulled off an important coup: after 48 hours of intense negotiations, president Manuel Rui Costa has reached a full agreement with Manchester City for Claudio Echeverri. The player's wishes proved decisive, with Benfica always top of his list despite interest from Real Betis, Sheffield United and River Plate.

Now travelling to Lisbon, the Argentine attacking midfielder will undergo his medical before signing. The deal was agreed as a loan with an option to buy.
