Sensational return of Renato Sanches to the Bundesliga? | Goal.com

According to information from fussballtransfers, the 29-year-old midfielder is on Union Berlin's shortlist. The report says the Iron Ones want to sign him in the current window.
Sanches is still under contract with Paris Saint-Germain, but he no longer has any future in Luis Enrique's squad. Officially, his deal with the reigning Ligue 1 champions runs until 30 June 2027, but according to fussballtransfers he can already leave the club on a free transfer this summer.
That means Union would face plenty of competition. Ipswich Town, Hull City, Torino and clubs from Spain have also reportedly shown interest in the Portuguese. Sanches, meanwhile, has already rejected approaches from the USA, Brazil and Saudi Arabia.
The 2016 Golden Boy winner was once seen as one of the brightest midfield talents in the game, which is why Bayern Munich paid €35 million in the summer of 2016 to sign him from Benfica.
At Munich, though, the now 29-year-old never came close to meeting those lofty expectations. In 2017, the German record champions sent him on loan to Swansea in the Premier League. A move to Lille followed in 2019, with Bayern still bringing in a €20 million fee.
PSG then paid €15 million for Sanches in 2022, but in the French capital, just as at Bayern, he never got beyond the role of a squad player. After loans to Roma, Benfica and most recently Panathinaikos Athens, the club's bosses in Paris now apparently feel they have seen enough.
