As you know, we publish volleyball predictions on daily basis, which are largely based on statistics. So we came across an interesting pattern that can be used as a strategy for live betting on volleyball. This methodology is applicable only live and for meetings that enter the tiebreak.
In some national leagues, we were impressed that often the team that lost the 4th game came out as the ultimate winner in the match. Analyzing the statistics from the current season, we noticed the probability that the team that lost the 4th game will be the final winner is higher than the opposite. This is more notable in men's games and not so much in women's events.
The most important thing about this strategy is that the odds of winning the team that lost the 4th game are then significantly higher than at the beginning of the match. They are also very often higher than the team that won 4th game. We assess this as normal from a psychological point of view. The opponent that won the last game is expected to rise. Obviously, many tipsters rely on this momentum in anticipation of a positive outcome in the 5th game, but statistics sometimes show different results.
Here are the numbers from some of the most popular volleyball leagues for the current season. In this table, we present statistics on the percentage of victories after playing 5 games in which the winning team lost the 4th game in the match.
| League | Matches finished in 5 games | % |
| International: Champions League | 8 | 62.50% |
| Argentina: Serie A1 | 18 | 61.11% |
| Brazil: SuperLiga Women | 31 | 58.06% |
| Turkey: 1. Lig | 33 | 57.58% |
| Russia: Superliga | 47 | 55.32% |
| France: Ligue A | 47 | 55.32% |
| Belgium: A1 | 20 | 55.00% |
