The arrival of Messi at PSG puts the manager Mauricio Pochettino under pressure to reduce the wage bill for the club. Messi will be receiving 35 million pounds annually in the French capital, and he’s expected to help the team win the French league and hopefully the Champions League.
That comes as good news to V9bet online betting fans as he joins Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Sergio Ramos.
Messi joined PSG under a two-year contract after Barcelona failed to renew his contract due to La Liga financial restrictions. That means PSG must look for ways to reduce their wage bill by trading five players before closing the transfer window on 31st August. That will help PSG maintain Messi’s 35 million euro annual salary as he joins high-earning players like Former Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Georgio Wijnaldum and Achraf Hakimi. Here are some players that PSG will have to let go to reduce the wage bill.
Julian Draxler
Having amassed about 50 appearances for Germany, Julian Draxler joined PSG from Wolfsburg in 2017 on a four-year contract worth €42 million. Draxler made his debut for PSG in the Coupe de France match against Bastia, scoring the final goal in their 7-0 victory.
The German attacking midfielder extended his PSG contract until 2024 earlier in May, although he might not be playing alongside Messi this season. Liverpool has already shown interest in Draxler after failing to sign him in 2017, although his age might be a sticking point.
Pablo Sarabia
Starting for 13 league matches in each of his two seasons with PSG, Pablo Sarabia has remained a peripheral figure for the French giants. The Spanish international featured in five games for his country during the Euro 2020 tournament, starting against Switzerland and Croatia in the knockout stages.
With reports that PSG might sell Sarabia in their summer window clear-out, the Spanish midfielder has been the subject of interest by his former team, Sevilla. As such, the Spanish international might be making a comeback to Ligue 1, although Sevilla might get into a close battle with Real Sociedad.
Rafinha Alcantara
The brother of Liverpool’s midfielder Thiago, Rafinha, moved to PSG from Barcelona a year ago. After making 34 appearances in his debut season in the French capital, the PSG midfielder is reportedly surplus to requirements today.
Lazio, AC Milan and Aston Villa have already shown interest in Rafinha. However, La Liga giants Barcelona will also benefit from the sale of the 28-year-old midfielder as they’ll receive 35% of the sale amount. Rafinha will exit PSG after making 23 appearances with 15 starts, where he recorded five assists.
Layvin Kurzawa
After joining PSG in 2015 for €23 million from Monaco, Layvin Kurzawa has agreed to join Lyon instead of Chelsea. Kurzawa will join Lyon on a permanent deal, but the details are yet to be finalized. The player is currently on top of his talent, with an average of 1.1 clearances and 1.4 tackles in his 19 appearances in league 1.
Thilo Kehrer
Thilo has been linked to some of the Bundesliga clubs, but the favourite remains Bayern Munich. According to reports, Bayern has reached an agreement with PSG on a three-year contract after Thilo refused a proposal from Bayer Leverkusen. The decision was influenced by his interest in participating in the champion’s league next year.
